How BSP-Sofia created a Literary Salon –

/ world today news/ A little more than 2 years ago, the party headquarters of the BSP-Sofia opened its doors to people of speech and science. Based on the idea of the leader of the capital’s socialists, Kaloyan Pargov, Literary Salon “Lege” 10 was launched. The initiative quickly met the support of the Union of Bulgarian Writers, many cultural and scientific figures who share Pargov’s understanding that art and speech are a center of attraction that unites , not divides. And the events of the Literary Salon calendar prove it. “Standart” sought the opinion of two of the participants in the initiative – the publisher Ivan Granitski and the famous journalist Yulia Piskuliyska. She is the founder of the “Media, Society, Family, Traditions” foundation, a member of the SBP and SBZ, winner of the “Golden Feather” award of the SBZ.

The word brought people of different party affiliations together

For me, the forward movement is carried out by people like the young politician Kaloyan Pargov, because they perceive their direct work as a responsibility and always enrich it with initiatives that at first glance are outside of this responsibility. One such initiative is the “Lege” Literary Club 10. The party club exceeded its purpose of holding meetings, meetings… Literature united people with different party biases, united them under the banner of creativity, knowledge, culture. I respect people who communicate with personalities and, beyond the circle of party bias, unite them with values. I myself communicate with such people, even with my closest friend we are not like-minded in that sense – but like-minded for humanity, for principles, for truth.

What sets this space apart from many others? In my opinion, of course. It does not have the support of modern technology, of screens and monitors. But it is a warm space with its unpretentiousness, with the naturalness that is palpable here. There are no distances between people, because the worship of literature does not allow them. There are no poses. There are confessions.

Values are professed here. They are the most powerful unifier of different people. Whoever loves Bulgaria will find here an opportunity to feel that love.

All kinds of books are analyzed here – philosophical, scientific, poetic, fiction… The conversation is not about praise, it meets opinions and everyone has the opportunity to defend their opinion. I left this club excited, informed and … well, cleansed. I remember how I was moved by Georgi Yordanov’s memories – so many facts, so many historical truths, so much humanity in these memories. Or Mercia McDermott’s book about Dimitar Blagoev… Every week I add a touch to the history of the Literary Salon. Those who came here together realize the idea of remembering artists like Vaptsarov, for example. Let’s quickly list a few things: an evening dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the birth of Nikola Vaptsarov, a commemorative evening for Academician Stefan Mladenov – “Science in favor of the economy”, an evening for Haitov, Peter Volgin’s book “Politically INCORRECT”, the new collection of poems by Georgi Konstantinov “Colchis”… Academician Ivan Radev, literary critic, literary historian and critic presented Hristo Botev’s unfinished political novel “Let’s Strike the Match of the Uprising” – so modern does the once written sound!

Many of the events of the Literary Salon “Lege” 10 meet significant personalities – Petar Volgin’s book, for example, was presented by Prof. Valentin Vacev. Documentary films are shown. Guitars sound the salon – for example, Evgeni Benov performed songs based on lyrics by Georgi Konstantinov. There was also a Vysotsky evening – in fact, it was the occasion to talk about this kind of songs, Dorothea Tabakova, a teacher at SU “Kliment Ohridski”, resurrected many artists with her guitar… Here you will see authors such as Angel Wagenstein, Petar Anastasov, Matej Shopkin, Todor Koruev, Ivan Granitski…

I would allow myself to put this emphasis again – there are also people coming who have other party biases and who are probably also convinced that literature connects through its values, highlights the contradictions here, in this space, in the name of Bulgaria. I have also presented my collection of poems, my poems are read by the magnificent Tatiana Lolova.

In fact, Kaloyan Pargov created a tradition. It’s not that simple. An idea devoid of meaning cannot attract people. But he saw that the space can be populated with thoughts, with a mood, that it can unite in the name of Bulgaria. It started from nothing. Now the tradition will do its thing – it will pass on, tomorrow, the day after… it will show that there are ways for people to overcome their rage, their differences, to find a common language and harmony of their souls under the banner of values. This is tradition with style, the style we see not only on the party podium. For me, style is a distinguishing feature of politician Kaloyan Pargov.

We will help young talents

Art.-cor. Ivan Granitski, Director of “Zachary Stoyanov” Publishing House

– Mr. Granitski, how did the idea for the “Lege” literary club come about?

– I have been watching the young, talented and very promising politician Kaloyan Pargov for a long time. For several years, in conversations with him, the idea of creating a literary club “Lege” was born. This is his idea, which I was very happy about. I joined this initiative.

Within a year and a half, legendary meetings dedicated to great anniversaries of our great writers, artists, musicians were held in this literary club… Here we should first of all note the evenings dedicated to Hristo Botev, Ivan Vazov, Nikola Vaptsarov, Geo Milev, Hristo Smirnenski. But premieres of books by modern writers were also held. The idea is to hold a literary salon for a very wide range of people – with different ideas and political leanings – in a party headquarters – in this case the City Council of the BSP. In the purest sense of the word: literary and artistic club. This is very necessary for any political party. But, alas, the rest do not.

– Are you considering initiatives to support young Bulgarian talents?

– Of course. The idea of this salon is to have round tables, discussions and debates at least once a month. And in some of the evenings I mentioned there were and they were quite productive. They were literary, but as we know, behind literature always stands the social canvas, public issues. We are planning to start presenting books to young authors, to search and discover young authors. Pargov’s idea is very promising and is supported by a number of Bulgarian scientists, academics and artists.
