Police register almost 80 violations of the cannabis law

The Berlin police registered almost 80 violations of the cannabis law within around six months. According to a police spokesman, 41 cases involved administrative offenses because people smoked weed in the so-called consumption ban zones. The remaining 36 cases (as of October 10th) involved other violations of the law that has been in force since April 1st. The RBB had previously reported.

Smoking marijuana or hashish has been permitted since April 1st, but distances from children, young people, daycare centers, schools and playgrounds must be maintained in public. Adults are allowed to have 25 grams of cannabis with them, more than 30 grams is a punishable offense. Consumers are allowed to grow cannabis themselves in certain quantities or become a member of a cultivation club and obtain it that way. However, sales and purchases are still prohibited.

It has not yet been clarified in Berlin who should continue to process the administrative offense reports. According to its own information, the Senate plans to present a regulation “shortly”. According to the police, the reports are initially collected at the local police departments. A catalog of fines approved by the Senate is due to come into force on November 1st.
