The Long-Term Effects of Obesity on Children

Children who are obese are more prone to the risk of serious diseases such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problems.
In addition, children also have the potential to experience emotional problems such as low self-confidence and the risk of depression due to bullying.

There are several steps that parents can take to prevent obesity in children.

Healthy Food: Make sure children get a balanced diet and reduce processed foods.

Regular Physical Activity: Encourage children to be active, for example by exercising or playing.

Limit Gadget Time: Reduce the use of devices and provide other, more active activities.

Get enough sleep: Children who get enough sleep tend to have ideal body weight.

Example from Parents: Parents can be examples by implementing a healthy lifestyle in the family.

According to Dr. Viany, childhood obesity needs to be treated through comprehensive lifestyle changes to maximize results.

“Parents need to limit the consumption of high-calorie and high-fat foods and provide food according to their child’s daily calorie needs. In addition to limiting food consumption, children must be encouraged to move actively for at least 60 minutes per day, by doing sports or physical games. “Furthermore, parents and family are very effective in weight loss or successful treatment,” explained Dr. Vianaidh.

The director of Bethsaida Serang Hospital, Dr. Tirtamulya said, Bethsaida Hospital Serang, especially through the Women & Children Center, is committed to providing comprehensive treatment to children with obesity problems.

“Not only for health problems in general, but especially for children who have obesity problems and who need special attention and support from experts,” he said.

For parents who are beginning to recognize the signs of obesity in their children, do not hesitate to see a doctor immediately to receive appropriate treatment and advice.
