Roanne is somewhat spoiled when it comes to bike racing with the Tour de France in Roanne in 2023 and stages of the Critérium du Dauphiné almost every year. But in 2025, the biggest race in the world will not come to the region.
In fact, the route of the 2025 edition, published at noon, avoids Rhone and in general the Loire, and even the Rhône and Saône-et-Loire regions.
Coming to Mont-Dore and Valence
The world’s biggest cycling race will start from Lille on Saturday 5 July and reach the Champs-Élysées three weeks later. So tour fans in the area have to travel to see the professional peloton. The arrival of Mont-Dore could attract cycling fans. It also takes place on July 14, the national holiday. The fight should be good in Puy-de-Dôme. The start of this stage will be from Ennezat, a town with 2,500 inhabitants, still in Puy-de-Dôme, just over an hour and twenty minutes from Roanne.
The arrival of the 17th stage in Valence in Drome, on Wednesday July 23, will still be one of the closest to Ronnais. The day before, the riders will have climbed Mont Ventoux, which will host the finish of the 16th stage.
For the rest, the Tour de France 2025 will be 100% French. It had been five years since this happened. After arriving in Nice in 2024 due to the Olympic Games, the Tour will begin its routines on the most beautiful route in the world, the Champs Élysées, on Sunday 27 July.
