The last week of October begins with the celebration of the national anniversary of NO, but the “future” of SYRIZA is determined by Koumoundourou’s YES.
With the deadline for the submission of nominations and the registration of members having closed before 26/10, the finale of the three days marks the beginning of the pivotal, and mainly “warlike”, developments on the way to the election of a new president.
The Political Secretariat postponed its meeting in order to have something tangible to discuss and is now called upon, as the executive body of the party, to close the pending open cases.
Approval and promotion of nominations
In the first phase, the PG will check the files with the supporting documents of the candidates in order to promote them competently. Since no surprise was announced before the deadline expired, the members intend, applying the decision of the Central Committee, to approve four nominations: of Apostolos Gletsosof Pavlos Polakisof Socrates Famellou and his Nikolas Faradouris.
Contrary to Stefanos Kasselakis, the file will remain in the drawer. Already from the previous week it was communicated that the decision of the KE is still in force without anything having intervened to overturn it. Therefore, the former president’s candidacy will not be advanced, by majority, to the next stage of the process, even if there are the expected objections or if a member invokes the recent opinion (disputed anyway) of the Ethics Committee.
When and how the special conference will be held
Next, obviously, the conditions for holding the conference should also be clarified. Since an official and detailed guide has not yet been given, the Political Secretariat will be asked to provide clarifications both for the hosting area and the formula to be followed in the highest body of SYRIZA. In any case, time is pressing and margins are narrowing.
Will it be, say, the entertainment complex in Gazi that will be used in the end? Or did some alternative emerge, more convenient for the occasion?
Also, based on the road map, the conference is set to last three days, from Friday 8 to Sunday 10 November, after it had already been postponed by a week. However, since versions had been circulated either for collapsing the work in one day (like last year when it was continuous) or for postponing it after the presidential elections, the answers are awaited.
As of course some percentage of delegates will be forced to participate online due to lack of space.
At the weekend, the election of delegates
As long as the necessary procedures are launched without any further delays, SYRIZA will enter a conference trajectory. First of all, the selection of those who will have the right to participate, speak and vote.
The elections have already been announced for November 2 and 3 and the polls in OM will be nationwide. Those who receive the “green light” from the Committee on Legalization of Members will have the right to both elect and be elected.
The measure is set from 1/40 to 1/60, directly dependent on the registered people who will come to vote. For this reason and throughout the previous period, an anxious effort was being made to attract members and correspondingly shape the defining anthropo-geography of the organ.

On the one hand, St. Kasselakis had left tips for the compilation of the updated lists and possible exclusions of congressmen of his influence. On the other hand, the majority of the party had accused him of the unprecedented and unacceptable insinuations of fraud in the elections.
