Neighborhood of Villeurbanne very densely populated, Tonkin is subject to regular adjustments. By spring 2025, these are the esplanade of Europe et the Jean-Monnet promenade which are covered by a budget of 740 000 euros.
This new construction site has just been launched for more qualitative treatment of the Jean-Monnet pedestrian route. Its width will decrease and its route, currently rectilinear, will become sinuous.
The tree bases will be planted with different heights to promote biodiversity and allow rainwater to infiltrate. The barriers demarcating the pedestrian zone will be replaced by low chicanes to ensure accessibility.
THE playgroundspicnic and sports areas, will be better equipped: stabilized ground, planting of plants, installation of a new lighting pole, game tables, creation of a “sensory path.
In Tonkin, the Europe esplanade continues its transformation
The vast esplanade of Europe green space with large trees, and its surroundings, constitute a popular neighborhood heart. Following recurring requests linked to misuse of this space leading to security andincivility (notably the circulation of scooters), the City has launched a consultation with residents and stakeholders in the neighborhood.
Since 2021, it has undertaken several phases of development work with a view to improving this esplanade and its surroundings: temporary security of the pedestrian path; installation of sports equipment near the Fountain of the Giants; renovation of the children’s play area with new inclusive modules; creation of an area for dogs.
Raphaël-de-Barros: a parking lot disappears, a park appears near Flachet
In the neighborhood Flachetfinished the bitumen of Raphaël-de-Barros car park. 4,400 m2 of green spaces will be made available to the public within nine months, behind the central media library in Villeurbanne. The cost of the work amounts to 2.4 million euros. This tenement served for a long time as a parking lot forAsvelformerly based at the neighboring gymnasium.
After a phase of demolition, removal, stripping of 5,000 m2 of coated material and fertilization of the land, the development work began.
The City is creating a nature park (150 trees planted) with spaces dedicated to leisure and also sport, with a skatepark equipped with concrete tracks (at the square de la France-Libre) as well as a 3×3 basketball court along the covered hall.
On the plant side, it will be a central meadow of 2,400 m2, a reading garden near the House of Books, Images and Sound, and the planting of plant beds over 2,000 m2, with the installation of freely accessible cultivated containers. There remain 11 parking spaces, and one space for people with reduced mobility.
