NEW YORK – The coach of a Brooklyn youth football team sexually abused several teenagers who played for him, repeatedly insisting that the players expose themselves and sometimes even refusing to stop a difficult practice to will they do so, according to the district attorney.
An investigation revealed that the abuse extended from early 2023 to the summer of 2024, when Nicolas Morton, 31, was leading a travel football team while also serving as the head coach at Packer Collegiate Institute. The victims said that in almost every practice, Morton made sexual comments, repeatedly asked or pressured them to show him their pubic hair or private parts, and talked they long about masturbation. Three of the boys said the coach touched their private parts over their clothes, and one said Morton touched him under his clothes, according to the district attorney.
At times, the players said Morton tried to convince them to show up by offering them material things, or told them they couldn’t stop running or doing other exercises until they showed up. them to him. The coach also threatened to kick the boys off the team if they didn’t do that, González said.
In the summer of 2024, rumors of the alleged abuse began to spread among the players’ parents, some of whom approached Packer with their concerns. Morton, of Park Slope, was fired by Packer in August.
Morton was arrested and arraigned Thursday. He faces a total of 20 charges, including sexual abuse, sexual conduct against a minor, forcible physical contact, endangering the welfare of a minor and false imprisonment, according to a person’s office -law of the area.
“The alleged actions of this defendant represent a serious betrayal of trust by taking advantage of young athletes under his tutelage. Coaches have a responsibility to nurture young minds and talents, not exploit them for personal gratification,” Gonzalez said. “The disturbing details of this case highlight the lasting harm this type of behavior causes on vulnerable young people, and we are committed to holding this defendant fully accountable.”
Bail for Morton was set at $75,000 cash or $150,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 13. Morton’s attorney information was not immediately available.
