The police suspect that the 16-year-old e-scooter intentionally ran into another man before the fatal collision.
The police have discovered new facts about the electric scooter accident in Espoo‘s Leppävaara in August.
A man riding an electric scooter died on August 15 when a 16-year-old electric scooter rider ran into him on a crosswalk.
Director of investigations, inspector general Hand Control says that the police now suspect that the same e-scooter also intentionally ran into another man before the fatal collision.
– The same young guy ran into another pedestrian, who was injured. This is currently being investigated as an assault. The second one is clearly intentional and this more serious one is most obviously an accident, says Kontola.
According to the head of the investigation, information about the second collision came to light later during the preliminary investigation.
– The collision took place approximately 15-30 minutes before the fatal accident. The venues are close to each other.
According to the police, a middle-aged man was injured in the first collision. The accident caused him injuries that required hospital treatment. The man has since returned home.
High speed
According to the police, the suspected perpetrator had his own electric scooter. The police’s investigation has been hampered by the fact that it has not taken possession of the vehicle in question.
– There is no complete certainty about its speed, but during the preliminary investigation we have received evidence that the skateboard in question travels at least 60 kilometers per hour, says Kontola.
The police have investigated the cause of the death as aggravated endangerment of traffic safety, aggravated manslaughter and reckless driving. The now 16-year-old is also suspected of assault.
– These two matters will be combined into the same entity, when the matter can be forwarded to the prosecutor. The preliminary investigation will be completed soon.
