Dr. Tirta explained that coughing is more likely to occur due to eating ice made from raw or dirty water. He emphasized the importance of ensuring the cleanliness of the water used for ice.

In addition, people who are sensitive to cold temperatures, both from drinks and food, are also more prone to cough.

“That can happen if the ice is raw. “Then the ice is dirty or you are very sensitive to cold,” said Dr. Tirta.

“For example, there are some people who drink ice cream or eat cold food, the receptors here (throat) are stimulated and they cough. “If the cough receptor is zero 9, if the vomit receptor is zero 10,” he continued.

He also explained that cough receptors are connected to the 9th cranial nerve (glossopharyngeal), which is responsible for tasting and swallowing, as well as sending sensations from the throat. Throat irritation, such as that caused by cold temperatures, can trigger a cough reaction through this airway.

“So it could be true (coughing),” explained Dr. Tirta.

“That’s why because of the cough, the parents said don’t eat ice and then you cough, even if the cough was due to an infection. “That’s why if you drink, don’t let it be too cold, just cool water,” he concluded.
