Neleswaram Fire Accident: Accident during fireworks in Neleswaram; 154 injuries; 97 people are under treatment

More than 100 people were burnt when an ammunition shop caught fire during a play at the Anjutambalam Vererarkav temple in Nileswaram, Kasaragod. Immediately after the accident, the injured were admitted to Kanhangad District Hospital and other private hospitals. The fatal burn victims were shifted to private hospitals in Mangalore and Kannur and Pariyar Medical College Hospital. Two temple officials were taken into police custody in the incident.

The condition of 10 burn victims is serious. Of the 33 people in the district hospital, the condition of five is critical. Three out of 19 people admitted to Aihal Hospital and two out of 12 admitted to Arimala Hospital are in serious condition. Those standing near the fireworks were burned in the accident.

About 154 people were injured in the accident. Of these, the condition of four people who were taken to Pariyaram Medical College is critical. One person suffered more than 70 percent burns. More burn victims are being shifted to Pariyaram Medical College and Mims Hospital. So far there have been shootings in Pariyaram Medical College, Mims Hospital, Kanhangad District Hospital, Nileswaram Tejaswani, Taluk Hospital and Mangalore.

The district collector clarified to the reporter that there was no permission for fireworks. The police have registered a case of careless handling of firefighters. The president and secretary of the temple were arrested by the police. The police say that more departments will be introduced later.
