In the middle of Manhattan, Trump is once again bringing out the big guns shortly before the 2024 US election. The city is considered a stronghold of the Democrats.
New York – It is the largest city in the USA and is considered a stronghold Democrats: New York City. It is all the more questionable why the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump nine days before the US election of all places, in the famous Madison Square Garden, was vying for votes. Together with prominent supporters, the 78-year-old held a huge election campaign event in front of 20,000 guests.
Tense relationship with New York: Trump’s rise and fall in the Big Apple
The Democratic Governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, sees the election campaign appearance on Sunday (October 27) in the East Coast metropolis as an admission that the US election is against her opponent Kamala Harris no longer being able to win. “I think he’s waving the white flag of surrender,” Hochul said Sunday on MSNBC’s “The Weekend.”

“He’s coming back to a city he knows well. He feels comfortable here. “Maybe he would like to sleep in his own bed,” the Democrat continued. In fact, Trump has a special relationship with New York. Trump comes from the New York borough of Queens and, as the heir to a real estate company, enjoyed a brilliant rise in the city in the late 1970s and 1980s, which helped him achieve national prominence.
Since the polarizing election campaign in 2016, many liberal New Yorkers have turned away from Trump and his right-wing populist politics. Trump obviously wanted to make a statement with his appearance. That could also help some Republican legislative candidates hoping to win in a number of close races in the state and win a seat US-Kongress want to conquer after the election on November 5th.
“Carnival of resentment”: Criticism of Trump’s campaign event in New York before the 2024 US election
According to Hochul, Trump cannot win new voters in New York. Trump will return to his “known, familiar” environment, but this will be of no use to him in the election campaign, Hochul argued to the magazine The Hill. “He gives up because why else would you come to New York City? You won’t find any undecided voters on the streets of Manhattan today.”
Hochul compared Trump’s rally to Vice President Harris’ travel schedule. She is campaigning in the crucial swing state of Pennsylvania. Especially since the 78-year-old’s event once again made negative headlines. The New York Times headlined the day after Trump’s appearance: “Carnival of resentment, misogyny and racism.”

Trump denigrated his Democratic opponent Harris during his speech, sparking widespread cheers. The 60-year-old is “highly incompetent” and unsuitable for the office of president, Trump said. Nobody respects her, nobody trusts her. “Everyone knows she has a low IQ.”
He also repeated a series of falsehoods about migration policy and called the US an “occupied country.” Election Day on November 5th will be “the day of liberation,” said Trump and announced steps against immigrants in the USA. “On day one I will launch the largest deportation program in America,” he said. “We will put these vicious and bloodthirsty criminals in prison and drive them out of our country as quickly as possible.” As before, he called the Democratic Party an “enemy within.”
Prominent guests: Tech billionaire Elon Musk and wrestling star Hulk Hogan promote Trump
During his appearance, Trump was supported by prominent guests. Tech billionaire Elon Musk praised the future economic policy under Trump – with his input: “The future will be great,” he shouted to the crowd.
