With the purpose of strengthening food security in Norte de Santander, The Government has launched a food basket modality within the School Feeding Program (PAE)benefiting more than 9 thousand students in El Tarra and Hacarí during the school break.
The strategy, promoted by the governor William Villamizarseeks to provide students enrolled in the Integrated Enrollment System (SIMAT) with a balanced diet that enhances their comprehensive development.

The coordinator of the PAE, Érika Jaimes, emphasized the importance of guaranteeing adequate nutrition in the formation of future responsible and healthy citizens.
“Our goal is that every boy and girl in Norte de Santander has access to a balanced diet that allows them to fully develop”Jaimes said. “By ensuring adequate nutrition, we are laying the foundation to form healthy citizens committed to the development of our department. “This program is an investment in the human capital that Norte de Santander will lead in the coming years.”he added.
For the recess period, the food basket will include foods from six basic groups: cereals, fruits and vegetables, dairy products, proteins, fats and sugars, ensuring a varied and balanced diet. This approach also adapts to the needs of the U’wa and Barí Ñatubaiyibarí indigenous communities, also promoting inclusion.

Javeriana University supervises the Norte Santander PAE
A recent study by the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana recognized the implementation of the PAE in Norte de Santander as one of the most effective in reducing the gap in access to education and nutrition in Colombia. Transparency in the management of this program has been closely supervised by rectors, students and representatives, consolidating the regional PAE as one of the three best in the country.
Supervision by rectors, students, student representatives and controllers from different municipalities and provinces is essential for the project to continue being one of the three best in the country.
The report was announced by Governor Villamizar, within the framework of the First Public Table of the PAE 2024, a day that made it possible to publicize the processes that have been carried out since the program began on January 22 to date, with in order to comply with the provision of this benefit in the 39 municipalities of departmental jurisdiction.
“The Norte de Santander PAE has always been on a green traffic light. This means that they are the scores that are greater than 90 out of a rating of 100, which has allowed us to always be among the three best in the country.”Villamizar commented.
Before the general director of the Food to Learn Unit, Luis Fernando CorreaVillamizar explained the need to guarantee the service to the 116 thousand beneficiary children. He also referred to the approaches he has had with the Minister of Education, Aurora Vergara, so that the PAE lasts until the month of November, when the school calendar ends.
