Rompoi expects a recovery of economic activity in Europe –

/ world today news/ The President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, said on Sunday that he expects a recovery of economic activity in Europe (Rompoy is referring to the Eurozone, ed.) in 2014, indicating that there will be positive growth in the Eurozone, with the exception of Slovenia and Cyprus.

Speaking in Flemish on TV channel VTM, he said: “In the euro area, except for Slovenia and Cyprus, we will reach positive economic growth,” AFP reported.

According to Rompoi, even the most backward countries such as Spain and Greece are showing signs of growth. Two thousand and fourteen will be a year of recovery, although this is not yet visible due to the current persistence of poor unemployment data.

But new jobs will take more time, said the president of the European Council, who is currently preparing a book entitled “Europe after the storm”.

Van Rompuy dismissed concerns that May’s European Parliament elections would show a strong rise in Eurosceptic populist parties.

“Euroscepticism is an all-time phenomenon,” he said, referring to the long career of the former leader of France’s far-right National Front, Jean-Marie Le Pen.

“I am confident that the vast majority of the population of Europe is in favor of the European Union,” he said.
