  2. YouTube Music: Change audio quality – here’s how

With music streaming services, you can usually change the audio quality in the settings. This is also possible with YouTube Music.

Although the provider is not known for the best audio quality, changing to the highest level is still worth it. We’ll show you where to find the setting and how to change the audio quality.

YouTube Music: The levels of audio quality

YouTube Music is one of the few providers that does not yet offer lossless audio. Nevertheless, with YouTube Music in the premium version you can choose between three different levels of audio quality.

  • Low: 48 kbit/s in AAC format
  • Normal: 128 kbit/s im AAC-Format
  • Hoch: 256 kbit/s im AAC-Format

To put it simply, the AAC format (Advanced Audio Coding) used here is very similar to the well-known mp3 format. A compressed, lossy audio format that the provider uses to save storage space.

The “Always High” option can be useful if you always want to stream in the best audio quality. Otherwise, YouTube Music may adjust the quality depending on how good your internet connection is.

However, the problem is not completely solved. If you select the option and don’t have a good connection, the music may start to pause in the middle.
