According to the emergency services provider Magen David Adom in a statement, about 29 people were injured in the incident, with several of them now in serious condition in the hospital.
One of the Israeli paramedics, Elior Yosef, said he saw eight people “trapped under the truck” when he arrived at the scene.
“Several other victims were lying or walking near the truck,” Magen David Adom said in a statement.
Israeli police, in their statement, said that several civilians at the scene “shot at the truck driver and neutralized him”. It is not clear whether the driver of the truck was killed or still alive as a result of the fire.
Israeli police described the truck driver as an Israeli citizen of Arab descent, and said they were working with Israel’s internal security agency to establish the identity of the truck driver.
