Tournefeuille. Recycling center hours are changing

After the announcement of the implementation of the evolution of the collection of green waste by Toulouse Métropole, the implementation of new hours of the Decoset recycling centers raises questions. “From November 1, 2024, new closing times and days are in place at all recycling centers in the Decoset territory in order to facilitate access to recycling centers,” announces the city of Tournefeuille on social networks. Until now, the Plaisance-du-Touch recycling center, to which the majority of Tournefeuillais go, is open every day (except Tuesday, when it is closed) continuously from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

From November 1, this recycling center will be open from Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. then from 1:45 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday continuously from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. then from 1:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Hours of operation thus go from 60 opening hours per week to less than 45 hours, a reduction of 25%. Combined with the fact that waste collection will become chargeable from January 2025 and that Toulouse metropolis invites owners of green spaces to either crush and use waste locally in the garden, or take other waste to the recycling center, It is feared that these timetable restrictions will cause even greater traffic jams than those which exist on certain weekends.

As a reminder, Decoset (Mixed union for the treatment of household waste in the Toulouse area) is an organization which manages waste treatment for several communities around Toulouse.

Its main role is to coordinate the management of household and similar waste, by supervising recycling centers, sorting centers, and waste treatment facilities (incinerators, composting platforms, etc.).

It ensures the proper treatment, recycling and recovery of waste while respecting environmental standards and raising citizens’ awareness of sorting. Decoset is managed by a mixed union, made up of elected officials representing member communities.
