Eric Adams advocated for lowering the temperature in political discourse.
The mayor of New York, Eric Adams, clarified at a press conference this past Saturday that he does not think that Donald Trump is a fascist. “My answer is ‘no,'” answered to a question about it from a journalist.
“I know what Hitler did and I know what a fascist regime is like,” said Adams, who advocated for “lowering the temperature” in political discourse. “Those terms have been thrown at me by some of political leaders in the city, who used words like Hitler and fascist,” he recalled.
The mayor of New York also criticized proposals to ban the Republican candidate from his campaign rally at the Madison Square Garden sports complex. “I strongly agree,” he said, noting that it is a matter of freedom of expression.
“This is America. This is New York, and I think it’s important that we allow people to exercise their right to send their message to New Yorkers,” Adams explained. “Our job as a city and as a Police Department is to make sure they can do it peacefully,” he said.
