CALW, October 28, 2024 (pm) – The corona pandemic hit the basketball department of TSV Calw hard. The increasingly strict measures, most recently 2G+, ultimately led to the team’s extinction. The placement of the powerful team at the time was particularly bitter. With second place in the table they had good chances of promotion.
No training could be offered for over a year due to a lack of players. It was all the more gratifying when, after an active search, around 25 players were found and the new structure could start with the first training in spring 2023. A second training session can now even be offered. After a year of training, a team was able to register again and the first game was played at the beginning of September. The current team is diverse, from 16 to over 40 years old, from beginners to “old hands”. Therefore, what is needed above all is perseverance until many new players become a well-rehearsed team. But Kai Kluge, the deputy head of the basketball department at TSV Calw, isn’t worried about that: “The team atmosphere is really very harmonious and the team has great potential. Especially because of the many younger players.” After losing the first games at the start of the season, the team recently celebrated its first success in the home game against TV Rottenburg.

Despite the challenges of recent years, youth training was able to be offered continuously. “Youth is the key to the future of our department,” emphasizes Waldemar Bosler, one of the three youth basketball coaches at TSV Calw. Although there is currently a lack of the necessary number of young people to register their own youth team, the club is confident that this will change soon. “We can still use players in all age groups, i.e. U12, U14 and U16,” said Waldemar Bosler. “The U14 is already very well staffed, also in terms of performance. We will be able to register a youth team here in the foreseeable future.”

The reconstruction of the club was significantly supported by Felix Walz as a full-time employee. This special offer from the association has also benefited other departments. In summary, Walz explains, “we are very proud of our many volunteers, without whom none of this would be possible.” “For the future,” says Walz, we want to attract even more young people who are enthusiastic about basketball in order to set up strong teams in all youth areas “to be able to.”

The training times are always Mondays, 5:00 p.m. and Thursdays, 4:30 p.m. in the Walter Lindner sports hall in Calw (except during holidays). It’s worth stopping by.
The next step? Get more wins and build up the youth department. TSV Calw is staying tuned. The next time you can see the TSV Calw basketball players live is at the home game on November 10th, 2024 at 5 p.m. in the Badstraße hall.
