The Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) won the parliamentary elections and will be the largest party in the Lithuanian Seimas. The party had already won a large number of seats in the first round of elections, and the results of the second round strengthened its leadership, gaining a majority in parliament.
LSDP Chairman Vilija Blinkevičiute thanked the voters for their support, noting the importance of the changes for the country: “I am very grateful to the people of Lithuania who voted so actively for us, the Social Democrats. The election results showed that the people of Lithuania want change, that they need a completely different government,” said Blinkevichiute.
In addition, the LSDP plans to form a coalition government together with the Democratic Union “For Lithuania” and the Lithuanian Union of Farmers and Greens. According to preliminary data, such a coalition will be able to count on 70 of the 141 seats in the Seimas. This makes it possible to create a stable government that aims to implement the promised changes.
