Open Opportunities for Economic Cooperation

Foreign Minister Sugiono announced Indonesia‘s desire to join the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) economic group. Vice Chairman of Commission I DPR RI Dave Lacson he said this is a government policy that needs to be supported.

“This is a government policy that we need to support,” Dave told reporters, Sunday (27/10/2024).

Dave explained that all opportunities that open up economic cooperation should be done as prescribed in the 1945 Law Not only that, said Dave, BRICS also opens up opportunities for dialogue that guaranteeing the welfare of citizens so that it becomes a world peace forum.

“We must fulfill every opportunity for economic cooperation that opens dialogue and communication that guarantees the welfare of citizens and that can be a forum for world peace according to our Constitution 1945. According to Prabowo’s speech at the MPR, this is up to all of us,” he said.

Sugiono previously announced Indonesia’s desire to join the BRICS economic group. Sugiono said that Indonesia wanted to join BRICS to strengthen the interests of southern countries.

Sugiono expressed Indonesia’s desire to join BRICS when he represented President Prabowo Subianto at the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia. First Sugiono expressed thanks and apologies from Prabowo who could not be present in Russia in person.

“I would like to thank you for the invitation to President Prabowo Subianto to attend this prestigious conference and allow me to express the greetings and blessings of President Subianto (I would like to thank you for the invitation of Mr. President Prabowo Subianto to attend the prestigious summit “and let me convey the greetings and respect of President Subianto),” said Sugiono, quoted from the video sent. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sunday (27/10).

He said that Prabowo really wanted to attend the BRICS summit in Russia. However, he said, Prabowo has several agendas that need to be completed after he is inaugurated as President.

Afterwards, Sugiono expressed Indonesia’s desire to join BRICS. He also explained the reasons why Indonesia wanted to join BRICS.

“It is my pleasure, as the special envoy of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, to announce that Indonesia intends to join BRICS and become a member. By doing so, Indonesia will be able to better support BRICS efforts to advance the courses and interests of the global south while also contributing to the maintenance of a world order based on freedom, peace sustainability, and social justice (I have the honor, as a special envoy of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, to announce Indonesia’s desire to join BRICS and become a member “In this way, Indonesia will be able to better support efforts BRICS to advance the direction and interests of countries in the Southern Hemisphere while contributing to the maintenance of a world order based on freedom, lasting peace and social justice,” he said.

For reference, BRICS is an informal group of countries consisting of the Federal Republic of Brazil, the Russian Federation, the Republic of India, the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of South Africa. Russia is the country that initiated the formation of BRICS.

By the way, BRICS members are growing. So far, Egypt, Ethiopia and Iran have joined BRICS.
