The improvements made in the Démazis park, located near the Lac-de-Maine neighborhood center, the Jean-Monnet college and the Grand Maine shopping center, in Angers (Maine-et-Loire), were inaugurated on Thursday 24 October. The opportunity, for the mayor, Christophe Bechu, to remember that “from March to October 2022, reflection (on this project) was launched by 150 residents and over 90 attended the meetings.” Key principles emerged, such as developing links and distribution.
“Since the Démazis manor was sold, there was no longer direct access to the college, explains in detail Frédéric Moreau, head of project management and project monitoring at the parks and gardens department. We created an opening in the wall and a new path next to the house, inside the park. We also changed the covering of the main path with drainage material, which is always clean. »
Promote biodiversity
Until then, “The park has been crossed, but little use”, continued the manager. The residents wanted to develop recreational use there, “while he wants to keep spirit family, quiet.”
Street furniture in the park is now located in green alcoves, a play area with three wooden models and a viewing area. A fire hydrant and intelligent sensor lights have been installed there.
To promote biodiversity, the Town had also, by the end of 2023, planted 280 m² of beds of perennial plants and shrubs, as well as 17 trees, in particular. As for the lake, “It is still being considered in terms of balance and purity”, specifying the mayor.
“The park has been accessed since the beginning of spring. We worked in zones, we never completely closed it to the public,” specifies Frederic Moreau.
These improvements cost €246,000, and €26,000 must be added for lighting.
