SYRIZA Elections: Expiration of term – Kasselakis not a step back –

In Nirvana terms, given the playlist at the opening of the offices of Stefanos Kasselakis, today’s Thursday (24/10) would be for SYRIZA or the «Something In The Way» either the «Come As You Are». In simple Greek “something is coming” or “come as you are” – without excluding one from the other.

Taking place in the last hours before the official nomination of the contenders for a position that has been a widow for 45 days, the regime remains unstable, uncertain and fragile. Unfortunately, the deadline for submitting a nomination file for the presidential elections is still surrounded by a veil of confusing questions.

Not even the appearance of skyrocketing interest has been ruled out, although it seems unlikely that such a bold version will be verified at the last minute. Especially since Nikos Pappas has other institutional matters to deal with and Rena Dourou seems aloof.

It is, at the end of the day, a matter of perspective in this murky situation as to what is valid and what is not. Both and others.

Kasselakis has set his sights on the conference

St. Kasselakis did not choose by chance the eve of October 24th to open wide the doors of his new offices. His pursuit, beyond the communicative aspect, was twofold and obvious. On the one hand, he wanted to to send a message to those who block his way. On the other hand it was the most accessible way to “recruit” as many before the “war” of the 25th. That is, when the membership registration process in OM or isyriza is completed.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Can’t Stop,” also heard Wednesday night, has long digested it. Even if it smells more like “Teen Spirit”, than Kurt Cobain, all this insistence on the altar of power.

The (any) opinion of the Ethics Committee (disputed by the opposing bloc due to lack of quorum and non-relevant competence) does not substantially affect what was already known. And if Theodora Tzakri solemnly announced that based on the verdict of the disciplinary body, the conference approves or rejects everything, the former president’s plan was already planned.

Destination one: securing the majority of the body and then the removal of the exclusion from internal party processes. “There will be presidential candidates only at the congress. Don’t let anyone take your voice,” he told the crowd.

Will the deposed leader get there? He himself expresses, publicly or not, his doubts. Maybe this is also part of his strategy. He repeated this again speaking to ERT News before midnight.

Will the conference take place or not?

The ghosts weren’t out yet, but that of the postponement of the extraordinary conference it hovers endlessly. Especially as long as the Political Secretariat does not proceed with the relevant announcements about the hosting area and the holding formula, the anxiety about the final proposals swells.

The intra-party bloc of 87 is strong and fortified in the governing bodies, except for the ED, and is telling in all directions that Stefanos Kasselakis has no right to be a candidate. Even if it remains published to this day about his cause on the SYRIZA website.

The opinion is expressed everywhere that he was condemned by the Central Committee and no action of his will be recognized. Only a delegate, they insist, can be elected so that he is present and participates in the work of the supreme body.

It is a parameter the last to be counted from the internal party majority, politically and communicatively. It will be seen immediately how they will manage it and where it will end up. Because no one wants an arena conference that will further wear down an already wounded SYRIZA. KOES runs the procedures anyway.

Any other spin-off from St. Kasselakis is being judged on the sly side with the aim of laying the carpet for the heroic exit and, “after trivializing the process” as they charge him, to proceed with the formation of another party.

The new party and the MPs

Middle ends he didn’t rule it out either, maybe for the first time. “My intention is to stay in SYRIZA” and “I am not here to make my own party” he answered. Nevertheless, his answer had other strands. Some cases that easily turn into conviction. “If the process is not democratic” and “if the party cuts delegates or there is an incomplete registration of members” then… Then “we have to say the obvious”. Which is either a referendum or a change of direction.

As for him, SYRIZA should be affected parliamentaryly “if there is a democratic deficit in the procedures”. Although he stated that “I am not going to influence the choice of any MP” on the road to their independence, as long as his disqualification remains.

However, his formal exclusion will not affect his election campaign. As, of course, of the candidates who will receive the initial “green light”. From Saturday itself, the calculations for the anthropo-geography of the conference will begin in view of the scheduled elections for the next weekend (November 2-3). Both the number and the political characteristics of those who will vote are of great importance for the balances.

Famellos, Polakis and Farandouris move in parallel

Each with his struggle, of course, and his arguments so that he appears more current and more convincing.

For Sokratis Famellos, who on Wednesday saw PYRKAL workers in Ymittos, the story concerns “how SYRIZA will be sufficient, it will be serious, it will not make mistakes”. Only in this way will it gain perspective and evolve again into “a progressive government”.

Today, the Second Thessaloniki Member of Parliament will visit the Madras Blokou Kokkinias Monument and the Museum of National Resistance, while he will also tour the pedestrian street of Panagi Tsaldari.

Pavlos Polakis, who on Wednesday night spoke in Peristeri, is not interested in a SYRIZA like “the one that Stefanos Kasselakis, of 5%, wants to build, which will deal with part of the rights”. Nor for a SYRIZA that “will be a follow-up to a possible center-left or system-controlled, supposedly progressive collaboration.”

Nikolas Faradouris, on the other hand, is not unfamiliar with the second piece, on a specific basis of course. He believes that “the submission of progressive alternative proposals for society and the economy, as well as the broader mobilization of progressive forces, is now a social demand, which we must listen to.”

It is a way out to emerge a form of governability against Mr. Mitsotalis so that “society prospers and not have the highest precision in Europe, the highest revaluations and the greatest impoverishment” that the ND government has not prevented since 2019.
