Syrian community demonstrating in The Hague against cabinet plans

The Syrian demonstrators in The Hague

NOS newstoday, 4:23 p.m

Hundreds of Syrians gathered in The Hague today to protest against the government’s plans to declare various parts of Syria safe.

Syria is not safe while President Assad’s regime is in power, the demonstrators say. “We stand here today as a Syrian community to declare that Syria will always be dangerous as long as the dictator Assad is in power,” said Akram Aljnidi of the Free Syrians Netherlands Foundation. “He is the reason for our flight.”

Asylum contract released

Earlier this week he released the asylum contract from PVV and NSC, which said that the country’s policy for Syria would be “significantly tightened”. Some parts of the country could then be declared safe “still this year”. Asylum seekers who do not yet have status can be sent back to Syria.

According to the plans, returning Syrians who already have a residence permit can also be considered. It was announced on Friday that the coalition parties would… to agree has reached the asylum steps.

“I really don’t understand it at all,” said Mahmoud Al Naser. “The danger to the Syrian people is the regime, not just the active war. If I go back to Syria now I will be thrown in prison or killed.”

Red travel advice

It is not clear which parts of Syria would be safe, the demonstrators say. “We can’t imagine anything,” Aljnidi said. It also cites travel advice from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “The travel advice there is completely red. “

“When Assad leaves, everyone will go back to their own homes and their own families, “Freedom for Syria,” one of the demonstrators shouts through a megaphone. “Freedom for Syria,” the others shout back.
