For a quarter of a century, no one showed the will to erase the traces of the burning of the Party House –

/ world today news/ “Exactly 25 years have passed since an event whose shadow accompanies the entire transition and is still felt today. On the night of August 26, 1990, the building of the former Party House was set on fire. For a quarter of a century, six ordinary and one Grand National Assembly, no one showed the will to erase the traces of this fire”.

This was stated by the chairman of the BSP, Mihail Mikov, in his Facebook comment on the anniversary of the burning of the building that then housed the BSP.

“And while the material damage is no longer there, we still struggle with the spiritual defeats. Today, it still happens that some other symbol, guarding the historical memory of an entire era, with its sacrifices and exploits, with its achievements and unfulfilled aspirations, falls into the field of view of some “expressor of political opinion”, armed with a brush, a flask and hatred. True, paint is not like flames, mockery is not like violence, but it seems to me that the important moment is in the sense of the border – the one between civilized and responsible behavior towards the history of the people and vandalism, which wants to erase it at all costs” , notes the leader of the Socialists.

Friends,

It is exactly 25 years since an event whose shadow accompanied the entire transition and is still felt today. On the night of August 26, 1990, the building of the former Party House, which housed the BSP at the time, was set on fire.

For nearly a quarter of a century, six ordinary and one Grand National Assembly, no one showed the will to erase the traces of this fire. Some accepted this wanton hooliganism as their cause and their victory, and some overtly, some more covertly, took pride in it during the transition times. It is surprising that such rhetoric is heard even today, when there are still parties that have no other ideology than anti-communist talk and the denial of all the past, which belittle the achievements of our parents and willingly offer and sell our national interests across seas and oceans. To me, the overreaction to the symbols of a deposed regime by those who have long been passive about its essence or even supportive of it, according to their fashion and interest, continues to be inexplicable from a civilizational point of view.

And although the material damage is no longer there, we still struggle with the spiritual defeats. Today, it still happens that some other symbol, guarding the historical memory of an entire era, with its sacrifices and exploits, with its achievements and unfulfilled aspirations, falls into the field of view of some “expressor of political opinion”, armed with a brush, a flask and hatred. True, paint is not like flames, mockery is not like violence, but it seems to me that the important moment is in the sense of the border – the one between civilized and responsible behavior towards the history of the people and vandalism, which wants to erase it at all costs. It is primitive to think that crossing this line harms only our party – it harms our entire people. We from the BSP are the ones who, during all this time, have preserved a spirit of political tolerance that few parties have been able to demonstrate, even incidentally.
