The mattress was unused and abandoned in the garage. The report to the police allowed the owner to get her “secret treasure chest” back
Incredible misadventure for an elderly woman from Montebelluna, in the Treviso area, which fortunately ended with a happy ending. The lady had a whole life hidden his savings, family jewels and credit cards with a total value close to 50 thousand euros inside a mattress stored in the garage so as not to attract attention. This “secret treasure chest”, however, was unconsciously thrown away by the cleaning lady, unaware that it contained a good part of the woman’s belongings.
The old mattress in the garage
The story dates back to the evening of October 26th, when the domestic worker who helps to clean the house went to the pensioner’s house. The elderly woman, due to health problems, could not move from one room to another and was in another part of the house. In the meantime, the maid continued cleaning, putting aside objects that appeared unused or old, until she identified the mattresswhich now seemed worn and unused in the garage. Unaware of the value it contained, she thought it was the right time to get rid of it permanently and so she took it to the waste collection center, without notifying the owner.
The complaint and the research
The old woman only realized what had happened in the late afternoon: land the blood ran cold when she realized that there was no longer any trace of the precious mattress. At that point, in a panicshe rushed to warn her daughter: «The mattress is missing! They threw it away and there was money and jewels inside! Thus began a race against time to try to avoid the worst by recovering the precious mattress. There wasn’t a moment to waste. The daughter has contacted immediately the police station of Montebelluna, who took action together with the operators of the waste sorting company and the volunteers of the Civil Protection of the Alto Trevigiano town.
The discovery
In a true team operation, the makeshift task force worked tirelessly to inspect the collection centeruntil, after an hour of searching, they have found the mattress in the bulky waste bin. For once, the story ended positively. The intervention ended positively with the return of money, jewelery and credit cards to the family. The daughter, relieved and grateful for the outcome of the operation, warmly thanked the police and volunteers, apologizing for the inconvenience and commitment required.
