City authorities are taking all security measures at the campaign rally held by former President Trump at Madison Square Garden tonight.
At a press conference, Mayor Adams and the leaders of the Police Department confirmed that they are willing to guarantee public safety, as well as the right to protest peacefully.
Officials explain that there are currently no credible threats related to the event, which is expected to host approximately 19,000 people, who will be allowed to enter the coliseum on a first-come, first-served basis.
Adams emphasized that there will be zero tolerance for crime, obstruction of traffic, property damage and disorderly conduct. The mayor urged those involved in the political contest to avoid any conflict.
They also announced that several streets near Madison Square Garden were closed.
The closure includes vehicular and pedestrian traffic on 30th, 31st, 32nd and 33rd streets between Sixth and Eighth Avenues, as well as on Seventh Avenue.
Other Republican leaders are expected to join the event, including former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Congresswoman Elise Stefanik.
The Police Department said in a statement: “We are constantly communicating with the venue regarding specific security needs and calibrating according to our threat assessments, which take into account the environment as well as the people attending .”
