Miami. An offensive explosion of 33 points in the fourth quarter was key in this Thursday’s 120-109 victory of the Dallas Mavericks over the San Antonio Spurs, in which Luka Doncic was the star of the game scoring 28 points, eight assists and 10 rebounds .
Doncic, 25, welcomed the arrival of Klay Thompson with open arms, who in his debut scored six of his ten attempts from three-point range for a total of 22 points.
Thompson made his debut tonight with the Mavericks as a starter. His professional debut was in the 2011-12 season, wearing the colors of the Golden State Warriors for 13 consecutive seasons.
“I couldn’t ask for a better start,” Thompson said. “It’s a small step from where we want to get to but it’s something we can build on, Luka makes the game much easier for everyone, it’s his team and everything goes through him.”
On the other hand, Víctor Wembanyama did not have his best night and connected with one of his eight attempts from the three-point line, contributing a total of 19 points and nine rebounds.
Chris Paul, who is playing his 20th season in the NBA and first with San Antonio, played 29 minutes in which he recorded eight assists.
In another result, the champions Boston Celtics achieved their second victory of the season by defeating the Washington Wizards 122-102. Jayson Tatum was the second best scorer for the Celtics with 25 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.
Tatum, 26, the Paris 2024 gold medal winner, shot 45 percent from the field, including three triples.
Boston defined the game in three quarters, scoring 98 points and allowing 73 with a lead of up to 27 points.
The Washington Wizards, who had finished the 2023-24 season with the worst record in their history (15-67), suffered their first loss of the season; the capital team has not won 50 games in an NBA season since 1979.
