From Monday to Saturday midnight, the examination of the finance bill for 2025 offered unprecedented scenes: between a government abandoned by its troops and often saved by the far right and a left which passed several of its proposals for taxation of higher incomes and large businesses.

We wondered, with curiosity, how a government without a majority could have its budget voted on by an Assembly divided into three. Especially a budget with 60 billion in budgetary efforts displayed by Matignon and Bercy. The answer is simple: he can’t do it. Unexpected amendments, sometimes even coming from allied parties, have rewritten its copy, crossing out most of its flagship measures.

The left on a fiscal spree

Thanks to the weakness of the coalition between the LR and the presidential camp (Renaissance, Modem and Horizon), the left passed spectacular tax increases on the wealthiest and on large companies. Symbolic victories, because they will not survive a 49.3 or the Senate in the parliamentary shuttle.

First round, Tuesday evening: instead of the three years planned by the government, the deputies of the New Popular Front made permanent and increased the exceptional contribution on high incomes, a minimum tax of 20% for households whose income exceeds 250,000 euros for a single person and 500,000 euros for a couple.
