10% of annual turnover for participants in a fuel price cartel –

/ world today news/ In Bulgaria, it is sold without excise duty and without VAT, which are determined by the countries and added above the production and distribution costs. This is what Traicho Traikov, former Minister of Economy and Energy in the first government of GERB, said for BNR, regarding fuel prices in the country.

Bulgaria sells the most expensive diesel and the third or fourth most expensive gasoline in the European Union, Traikov said and explained that the main role in this case is played by the Commission for the Protection of Competition, whose results of their sector inspection are expected at the earliest time.

I hope the Commission will see the obvious – that something in the fuel market in Bulgaria is not as it should be, because there is no market reason for the prices to be as they are, said Traikov.

The former Minister of Economy and Energy clarified that the resolution of the problem in the State Agency for Metrological and Technical Supervision, whose employees reported pressure during their inspections at gas stations, will not reduce fuel prices.

Fuel prices will not change, as there is no public data on the costs of fuel production and distribution in Bulgaria. The only body that has investigative and sanctioning functions is the Commission for the Protection of Competition, because they can request any information, make connections and calculations, and if they find a problem, impose huge penalties. For example, 10% of the annual turnover – if such sanctions are also imposed on the participants of a possible cartel, this is several hundred million BGN, Traikov added.
