In a letter sent to the Minister Delegate to the President in charge of Defense (Mindef), the president of the National Human Rights Commission (Cdhc) of Cameroon requests “quick communication” about the torture of Longkana Agno Simon alias Longue Long. In particular, James Mouangue Kobila requests for “the measures taken to identify and punish the guilty, as well as to compensate the victim”.
The president of the Cdhc suspects the authors that this video revealed that they have a hidden agenda in their movement. ” His instigators are certainly informed of the appearance of the State of Cameroon before the anti-torture committee on November 13 and 14.», writes Mouangue Kobila.
This comes when Mindef has already announced an investigation into this matter, and above all ” all light will be shed on this miserable affair ». and duties will be established and consequences drawn based on the results of the investigation, in accordance with the laws and regulations in force“. However, several investigations that have been opened into situations of human rights violations have never been successful. But this time, the State of Cameroon has its back against the wall. Since the video of the torture committed by Longue Longue released, voices were published every day to denounce similar acts suffered by certain state services.Cameroon is expected to appear before the Committee against Torture in mid of Nov. And complaints are being made against the State and some of its civil servants.
