Elon Musk has given another $56 million to elect Donald Trump and other Republicans in the final weeks of the 2024 election, bringing to at least $132 million the amount the world’s richest man has spent to elect his allies to the White House and in Congress, according to federal filings.

The donations, disclosed by the Federal Election Commission on Thursday, show Musk has funneled money in three campaign directions: to Trump and Republican candidates for the House and Senate.

Musk from smaller donor to Republican benefactor

Musk, who had made only smaller political donations through the 2024 election cycle, funneled $43.6 million in the first half of October to America PAC, the group he founded, bringing his total for the year to $118.6 million. He also spent millions more distributing money around the political system that helps him build a network of allies.

The filings show donations through Oct. 16 and are the last detailed look at federal campaign and political action committee finances before Nov. 5.

Musk’s super PAC is paying for operations to boost pro-Trump voter turnout in contested states and Republicans in districts that could help Republicans win a majority in the House. America PAC is also spending on digital advertising campaigns, some of which target young men, trying to get them to the polls to offset Harris’ advantage among female voters.

Musk’s giving to other groups included $10 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC that aims to elect Senate Republicans, and $2.3 million to the Sentinel Action Fund, a super PAC that works for the Republican campaign in Senate in Montana, Nevada, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Political influence network

The donations are the latest demonstration of how Musk is expanding his network of political influence to include a potential future president and members of Congress.

His political activities have come under some scrutiny from federal officials. The U.S. Justice Department sent a letter to its super PAC this week warning that a program to give $1 million a day to registered voters in contested states who sign an online petition may violate federal laws. It is illegal to pay people to vote or register to vote.

America PAC spent $47 million and had $3.3 million in cash for the last 19 days before Election Day. Since its inception in early 2024 through October 16, America PAC has spent $105 million in support of Trump.

Musk is playing an unprecedented role in the 2024 campaign for a donor. In addition to his donations, he has appeared on stage with Trump and held his own campaign rallies without the former president.

Possible ministry

The former president said he would ask Musk to join his government should he win a second term.

Deep-pocketed donors play a critical role in supporting Trump, who lags far behind Harris in fundraising. He is outspending his campaign in all seven contested states that will decide the election down the stretch, according to data from AdImpact.

Harris’ financial advantage also allowed her to open more than 330 offices staffed with more than 2,000 paid employees to help conduct voter mobilization operations. But the candidates are statistically evenly matched among likely voters in each of the seven swing states in the Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll, with the narrow margins in those battlegrounds underscoring how last-ditch efforts could decide who is running for the white house
