October 29 is World Stroke Day, a day that aims to raise awareness of strokes (CVAs) around the world. Zonnehuisgroep Vlaardingen, Franciscus and the Healthcare Innovation Academy (ZIA) decided to celebrate this important day earlier with an evening conference.
The event was entirely dedicated to collaboration within the CVA care chain and brought together healthcare professionals from different organizations to share knowledge and strengthen collaboration.
The evening was opened by the geriatric rehabilitation care manager (GRZ) of Zonnehuisgroep Vlaardingen, who emphasized the importance of cooperation between all links in the care chain for stroke patients. A presentation was then given by a geriatric medicine specialist from Zonnehuisgroep Vlaardingen about delirium, depression and dementia, with tools for better recognition and treatment. A physician assistant (PA) from Franciscus then gave an interactive presentation on diagnosing a stroke, using practical examples to show how the location of the infarction determines the treatment process.
Workshops
There were various workshops. For example, about informal care participation. This workshop, organized by healthcare professionals from Minters, a wellbeing and support organisation, focused on the important role of informal carers in the recovery process of stroke patients and how health care providers to include and better support informal caregivers.
In another workshop, two stroke patients shared their personal experience. This provided valuable insights into the recovery process and gave health care providers tools to better respond to the needs of stroke patients.
In an innovative workshop, participants were able to experience for themselves what a stroke does to a patient through technology. This workshop was given by Albeda and Franciscus College.
The last workshop aimed to guide a new generation of students. This workshop was given by Zonnehuisgroep Vlaardingen.
After the workshops, the evening ended with an informal drink. The conference was a great success and helped increase knowledge and insight in stroke care. Collaboration between different health care organizations has also been strengthened. With the joint efforts of health care professionals, informal carers and educational institutions, we continue to work on improving care for stroke patients. Together we are committed to a better future for these patients and their loved ones.
At Zonnehuisgroep Vlaardingen we offer nursing home care, home care and rehabilitation.
