On election day, we turn the clock – 2024-10-26 05:13:00

We are moving on to astronomical time

On Sunday – October 27 – we will switch to winter time.

At exactly 4:00 a.m., we will turn the clocks back one hour and return to astronomical time. This means that our day will be one hour longer and we will sleep one hour more.

We also call it winter time, as it was first tried in Germany during the First World War. The second country to adopt the time change is Great Britain, followed by the rest of Europe.

In Bulgaria, summer and winter time were introduced on April 1, 1979.

The purpose of the invention, first proposed by Benjamin Franklin, was to conserve light in the winter and extend daylight hours in the summer. These days, however, the economic arguments in favor of the switch are increasingly “exhaling”.

The member states of the European Union, including Bulgaria, will certainly change the time in 2025 as well.

The reason is that the discussions about dropping the time change were frozen due to the coronavirus pandemic. They are yet to be renewed in the European Commission.

In theory, different countries have the right to adopt a different approach, but the goal of Brussels is that within the EU, compromise still prevails.

However, a number of countries such as Russia, Turkey, China, Egypt and others do not change the time at all.
