Saarland Children’s University invites you to the “Media Worlds” lecture series

Can you trust artificial intelligence? Can my computer even read minds? And what is allowed on social media? The lecturers at Saarbrücken University address these questions on four dates in the winter semester as part of the Saarland Children’s University.

The winter semester 2024/2025 at Saarland University has begun. There are a lot of lectures on the program, and not just for adult students. The Saarland Children’s University is also opening its doors again. The lectures are aimed at children between eight and twelve years old.

Four lectures on the topic of “Media Worlds” are on the program from November 13, 2024 to January 29, 2025. These all take place in the Audimax in building B4.1 on the Saarbrücken campus.

Am 13. NovemberThe 45-minute lecture starts at 4:15 p.m “Can you trust artificial intelligence (AI)?” by Prof. Dr. Melanie Platz on the program. She is a professor of didactics at the primary level with a focus on mathematics. She wants to teach how to properly search for information online and evaluate statements made by AI chatbots.

Am December 4th there is a special highlight on the agenda: the “Christmas lecture with Julian Janssen”, also known as ‘Checker Julian’. This also takes place from 4:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. Julian Janssen is the television presenter of the show named after him “Checker Julian” (KiKA and ARD) and a voice actor.

Under the question “Can my computer read minds?” holds Prof. Dr. Antonio Krüger on 8 January 2025 his lecture from 4:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. He is a professor of artificial intelligence in retail and CEO of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). The lecture is intended to convey how researchers try to program computers so that they better understand the human brain.

Registration is ongoing

The registration period for the winter semester 2024/2025 is running. On the Children’s University website Anyone interested can register for the lectures alone or in a group.

Arrival and departure to the children’s university

The best way to get there is by bus. Lines 101, 102, 109, 111, 112, 124, 136, 138 and 163 go to the university. The closest stop to the Audimax is the “Campus-Center” stop. Parents and carpoolers who bring their children by car can park on the parking deck in front of the “Universität Mitte” entrance during the children’s university lectures.
