“Our fixed principle and my fixed principle is not to comment on statements of former Prime Ministers and former leaders of the New Democracy, and much more, not to comment on circles of former Prime Ministers and former presidents of the New Democracy”. This is what the government representative answered when asked by journalists about the statement made through circles by Antonis Samaras.
Pavlos Marinakis, in today’s briefing for political editors, was asked to answer the journalists’ questions both about the controversy with the former prime minister, what Nikitas Kaklamanis commented earlier as well as about Nikos Pappa.
Regarding the proposal of Nikitas Kaklamanis that the Mitsotakis-Samaras solve their interpersonal problems, as he said, the government representative replied that “there is no interpersonal problem, I do not want to comment on a proposal of Mr. Kaklamanis, absolutely respected”.
In another question, if the government’s cohesion is at risk from Samara’s interventions and possibly history will repeat itself like in 1993, Mr. Marinakis was clear saying: “I don’t think there is such a possibility. I have said many times and historically now, very successful comparisons can be made because there are examples of writing, that I cannot remember a Government, let alone a Government of the second four-year term, that has more coherence than the Government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis. We have a program to implement, that is the goal. Our MPs, with their interventions, their questions, support the Government. They strongly support the big choices.” And he concluded by saying that “Greece, during the days of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is stronger than ever, nationally, defensively, diplomatically, with deeds and not words”.
“The Prime Minister does not choose, nor can he choose, the leader of another party, but he chooses with whom he will talk”
Finally, as to whether the prime minister chooses the leader of another party, as yesterday Kyriakos Mitsotakis figuratively and literally turned his back on Nikos Pappas, Mr. Marinakis emphasized that “The Prime Minister does not choose, nor can he choose the leader of another party or even the official leader of the opposition, but he chooses who he will talk to and you know, to put it simply in life not everything is the same. Fifty years since the restoration of the Republic, I do not remember again, even an official leader of the opposition being convicted, for one of the most heinous crimes, irrevocably and unanimously, against the institutions. One of the most heinous crimes against institutions”.
Mr. Marinakis continued by emphasizing that Kyriakos Mitsotakis repeated the red lines of both his and our faction. “We will not forget what we experienced. We will not forget, nor what we experienced from the extremes and for this reason and with our interventions, with our amendments, we gave the weapons to Justice to make its own decisions, but we will not forget what we experienced in these dark days, when for the first time we had a Government that went to make clear interventions in the Justice, in the Media and at the end of the day the Justice confirmed our fears”he added.
