Semar secures 8.3 tons of cocaine during maritime operation

Mexico City. Personnel from the Secretariat of the Navy-Mexican Navy (Semar) managed to arrest 23 people and seize 8,361 kilos of cocaine, during a maritime operation that included the pursuit on the high seas of five boats and a semi-submersible, all of this off the coasts of Michoacán and Guerrero.

The naval institution noted that this is “the largest amount of drugs seized in a maritime operation, unprecedented in the history of the Institution” and according to its estimates it represents a hit worth 2.99 million pesos.

In addition to the drugs, 8,700 liters of fuel were seized during monitoring in a surface unit, during maritime surveillance patrols and with the support of a Panther helicopter.

In the first case, the sailors located a boat with three outboard motors and eight crew members, who, upon realizing the presence of the authorities, threw marked packages into the sea.

The Semar troops “caught up to said vessel, arresting eight people, and seizing 94 packages of illicit cargo weighing approximately 2,105 kilograms, as well as 38 drums with a volume of 1,250 liters.” of fuel.”

The second seized vessel had three outboard motors and on board were three crew members who transported 125 drums with 5,950 liters of fuel and 49 packages of drugs weighing 1,102 kilograms of drugs were seized.

A third boat with two outboard motors off the coast of Guerrero, which contained 40 (forty) packages of alleged illicit cargo, weighing approximately 1,200 kilograms and 24 drums with a total of approximately 400 liters. of fuel.

The fourth seizure included a “semi-submersible boat with three outboard motors approximately 15 meters long, in which 93 packages of drugs weighing 2,179 kilograms, as well as drums with fuel, were transported.”

Semar explained that this interception operation of the “semisubmersible is one of the most complex, since this type of vessel is specifically designed to evade detection, so the strategy and high level of training of naval personnel allowed for an aerial insertion.” from a helicopter on said vessel in full motion, a high-risk maneuver since it requires absolute mastery of boarding techniques in extreme conditions.”

The fifth and sixth boats were seized, with six crew members on board, three outboard motors, 75 packages weighing 1,774 kilograms and 950 liters of fuel.
