The volleyball players from SSC Palmberg Schwerin were unable to end Dresdner SC‘s winning streak despite taking the lead twice. The German record champions lost to the Bundesliga leaders 2:3 (25:18, 19:25, 25:14, 20:25, 12:15) and suffered their second defeat in the fifth game, but gave Dresden their first loss of points in this one Season.
Although Schwerin now had to deal with the third top team in the league after champions Stuttgart (2:3) and SC Potsdam (3:0) within eight days, the Mecklenburgers started the game fresh and highly concentrated. After a balanced start in the first set, Schwerin pulled ahead to 16:11 and never relinquished the lead.
In the course of the second round, however, the hosts had problems in defense, fell behind 8:15 and had to accept the set equalizer. Head coach Felix Koslowski’s team was unimpressed by this and laid the foundation for winning the set again early in the third round.
The audience then experienced the next twist. After being 8:14 behind, the SSC equalized to 16:16, but could not prevent the second set loss. In the tiebreak, the DSC made everything clear with the second match point.
