the essential Lilith, the scorpion woman, we only talk about her in the Machine show. But how does it work?
To move during the show, Lilith will mobilize 19 manipulators. Weighing 38 tonnes, the latest creature by François Delarozière, artistic director from the company La Machinecombines the features of the scorpion, the goat and the spider. All its members can move. Thus his head and his bare torso rotate, tilt, oscillate from right to left and up and down. From its mouth and its stinger can spring fire, water in different forms and smoke.
Her magnificent blue eyes hemmed with long eyelashes, her eyelids, her tongue contribute to her expressiveness. As for his hands, they can grab objects. Finally, Lilith can walk, run, rear up, dance, lie down to come at the height of the public or slip under street furniture such as bridges. Like the Minotaur, we can manage its height, “from 4.50m when it is curled up, to 11 meters when it is erect”, specifies Machinist Manu Sarrat.
“His movements are more fluid”
Made of wood (lime) and steel, Lilith moves on eight legs, with a gait that oscillates between a crab and a spider. One of its legs is manipulated by Manu Sarrat. “Compared to the Minotaur and the Spider, Lilith is more modern. Her technique is more advanced. Her movements are more fluid,” he explains. And for good reason, the manipulation is done using exoskeletons. “The exoskeleton is hung on a leather plastron that the manipulator wears. Each exoskeleton is made up of five members equipped with sensors which reproduce the movements of the phalanges, wrist, elbow, shoulder and the front-back rotation of the latter”, explains we at the Halle de La Machine
The Guardian of the Underworld has “a very accomplished sculpture dotted with scars and tattoos. We can perceive her humanity and do many things, recognizes Manu Sarrat. r
