ABANO TERME (PADUA) – In the planning for the three-year period 2024/2026, approved in 2023, the municipal administration had foreseen an increase in traffic controls. A direction that he now wanted to support by extrapolating and disseminating data on sanctions imposed from the beginning of last August to the past 15 October.

The numbers
In these two and a half months, 52 cases of lack of information were recorded revision48 vehicles without insurance5 cases of motorists with expired or foreign driving licenses not valid in Italy, 3 cars in circulation despite being subjected to administrative seizure, 2 cases of driving while intoxicated, 2 cases of cars without rear license plates, 6 cars driven at speed dangerous, plus other traffic violations that are numerically less dense.
The analysis
«We take the figure of 52 cars without inspections – observes the commander of the local police, Francesca Aufiero -: in the whole of 2023, around 130 vehicles had been sanctioned. It seems clear that the two and a half month figure is significant, also because August is a summer month with a drop in circulation and September is also partially so. Such numerous lack of inspections and lack of insurance really make circulation less safe for all road users.”
The checks involved all the neighborhoods of the municipal territory, in particular they were carried out in the streets where reports from citizens and experience show that traffic is more intense and people who exaggerate with the accelerator are more often found there: go Colli Euganei, viale delle Terme, via Romana Aponense, Cesare Battisti, San Bartolomeo, Santa Maria, Giusti, Appia Monterosso, Ugo Foscolo, SG Bosco, Prati, Roveri, Diaz and via Monteortone.
The borderline cases
Among all there are some extreme cases. «We sanctioned a motorist who had never obtained a driving licence, and he is not even the first we have found like this – continues commander Francesca Aufiero -. During the checks it happened that after sanctioning a motorist for having driven with expired insurance, double omission of inspection, non-reflective license plate (with removal of the license plate) and circulation with tax detention of the vehicle, the officers caught the same motorist a few days later circulate with the same vehicle and have had to sanction him again for circulation with a vehicle without a license plate and a vehicle subjected to administrative detention, a sanction which entails the revocation of the license and the seizure for confiscation of the vehicle”.
However, it is not just the roads that fill the days of the local police. There are park controls, trade controls and much more. And in all this, some sanctioned people then write to the Command complimenting them on their professionalism and courtesy. «When this happens it is a very gratifying thing because it means that there are those who understand the work we do – concludes the commander – recently a lady who we found with expired insurance did it. Then he wrote to us “You are really very kind and if everyone worked with your kindness and dedication it would really be a better world”.
