Revolutionizing Interaction: A Glimpse into AI at the World Voice Expo

HEFEI, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) – In a groundbreaking demonstration of artificial intelligence capabilities, a humanoid robot, standing 1.7 meters tall and weighing 65 kilograms, showcased its ability to assist visitors at the 7th World Voice Expo held in Hefei, Anhui Province. As users engage with AI technologies, the interplay between humans and machines is rapidly evolving, highlighting a future where seamless communication can transform daily life.

A Showcase of AI Advancements

The World Voice Expo, which runs from Thursday to Sunday, features more than 200 cutting-edge AI products, including innovative humanoid robots and advanced human-machine interaction systems. This annual event exhibits the remarkable pace of AI development, reflecting its increasing integration into a variety of sectors, including automotive, personal devices, and smart home technology.

An Interactive Experience

During a live demonstration, the humanoid robot quickly identified a coffee bottle among other objects and efficiently delivered it to thirsty attendees. "Powered by the large language model, our second-generation humanoid robot is smarter and can perform more delicate tasks, such as pouring coffee," stated Ji Chao, chief robotics scientist at iFLYTEK. This seamless interaction exemplifies the advances in AI that enhance everyday experiences.

Empowering the Robotics Industry

iFLYTEK’s initiative to open its large language model to 450 robotics enterprises and over 15,000 developers is catalyzing growth within the industry. By empowering developers with these advanced tools, China positions itself as a leader in AI innovation. The willingness to share resources creates fertile ground for new products that could redefine the way we interact with technology.

Unitree, a robotics startup based in Hangzhou, showcased its impressive H1 humanoid robot, capable of moving at speeds of up to 3.3 meters per second. "We have sold more than 100 of these robots, priced at 90,000 U.S. dollars each, underscoring the vast market potential for full humanoid robot commercialization,” explained Li Jun, head of technical services at Unitree.

AI: A Catalyst for Economic Growth

In the broader context, AI is becoming a pivotal force in advancing China’s economy. As highlighted in this year’s government work report, initiatives like AI Plus aim to propel the digital economy forward and drive the modernization of manufacturing processes. The rapid evolution of AI technologies can streamline operations, enhance productivity, and ensure sustainable development.

Automotive Innovations on Display

One of the key highlights at the expo was the introduction of an automatic voice-interaction testing system for New Energy Vehicles (NEVs). This innovative system allows robots inside vehicles to interact with them as a human passenger would, while an external platform monitors and tracks accuracy, stability, and timeliness. "Voice interaction is essential for the intelligent cockpit of NEVs. Previously, testing required weeks of human efforts. Now, we can accomplish this in just two to three days," remarked Wu Jiangzhao, general manager of the National Intelligent Voice Innovation Center.

Chery’s chairman, Yin Tongyue, noted, "AI is reshaping the automobile industry," as the company expands its offerings to include talking vehicles and intelligent cockpit systems. This aligns with a crucial trend in the industry where manufacturers seek to leverage AI to create smarter, more user-friendly vehicles that appeal to tech-savvy consumers.

Smart Technology for Everyday Life

Aside from autonomous vehicles, AI is making inroads into daily living scenarios. MiMouse, a high-tech company from Anhui, exhibited its smart mouse and a newly developed smart keyboard, both powered by language models. "Our products help reduce repetitive tasks for office workers," reported Feng Haihong, general manager of MiMouse, emphasizing the growing demand for AI-enhanced office tools.

With over 4,500 AI companies flourishing in the Chinese market, the core AI industry has reached a staggering size. As of 2023, it has expanded to more than 578 billion yuan (approximately 81.3 billion U.S. dollars), reflecting a 13.9% increase from previous years. The insights gathered from the expo illustrate that AI will fundamentally transform industrial landscapes, competition, and scientific research, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for individuals.

Future Perspectives on AI Integration

Liu Qingfeng, chairman of iFLYTEK, shared his vision for the future at the expo. He emphasized that AI’s potential stretches beyond mere technology, as it aims to fulfill the aspirations of everyday people for a better life. His remarks encapsulate the overarching objective of AI advancements: to provide solutions that improve human experiences across various sectors.

As AI continues to expand its reach, the insights shared at the expo could pave the way for innovations and applications that resonate deeply with users. Whether through enhanced entertainment options or more efficient work tools, the essence of AI lies in its ability to make life easier and more enjoyable.
