Bulgaria may run out of gas –

/ world today news/ Bulgaria may run out of gas due to the crisis in Ukraine. This was warned by Deputy Prime Minister Tsvetlin Yovchev, who saw a threat to Bulgaria’s security in the growing tension between Kyiv and Moscow.

His statement in Brussels came hours after Gazprom warned that disruptions to supplies of the blue fuel to Europe were possible. On this occasion, the Minister of Economy Dragomir Stoynev is calling the energy chiefs and experts to an emergency meeting today.

He has asked for accurate data on our gas resources. If the blue fuel from Russia runs out, the reserves of 200 million cubic meters in the “Chiren” storage will be enough in 1.5-2 months. We can also count on the production from the “Galata” deposit, which provides 10% of consumption in our country. The third option is to buy gas from Greece.

According to the implemented plan for action in emergency situations of a gas crisis of our economic department, Bulgaria can count on the intersystem connection with Greece. It was adapted to send gas to our country during the previous crisis in 2009. In exceptional cases, we can buy blue fuel from there, which comes from Iran via Turkey. There is also a LPG terminal in Athens, but the prices are very high.

Meanwhile, Tsvetlin Yovchev stated that there may be difficulties in the delivery of strategic raw materials to Bulgaria through Ukraine, including nuclear fuel. According to him, all other threats have either a minimal degree of harm to national security or a low degree of probability.

The Deputy Prime Minister asked Brussels for a single European policy for joint management of crises in the field of migration and asylum. Yovchev also insists on an even distribution of the burden based on various indicators such as population, GDP, geographical location, etc.
