It is unacceptable that countries like Bulgaria become a sanitary belt for refugees –

/ world today news/ “It is inadmissible for countries like Bulgaria to be turned into a sanitary zone for refugees. They should benefit from a special status and relief in terms of quotas for the distribution of refugees,” said Iliyana Yotova in the plenary hall of the EP.

“The idea of some European leaders to create so-called “centers for the administrative detention of migrants” at the external border of the EU is insane,” said Mrs. Yotova in the plenary hall of the European Parliament. She added that it is unacceptable for countries like ours to be turned into a sanitarium for refugees. “Not only does this not solve the problems, it will deepen them even more,” added Iliana Yotova. In her speech, she emphasized that the approach should be completely different – that the countries of the external border of the EU should be relieved and enjoy a special status in the distribution of refugees, because several thousand already reside on their territory anyway. The heated discussion took place in the plenary hall of the EP between the Bulgarian MEP and a representative of Nigel Farage’s far-right British populist party, known for its radical policy towards migration.

Yesterday, the EP discussed the proposal of the parliamentary committee on civil liberties, justice and internal affairs for the transfer of refugees from Italy and Greece to the other EU member states. One of the authors of this proposal is the deputy chairperson of the parliamentary committee Iliana Yotova. The report is expected to be approved in plenary today.

“In recent days, there has been a lot of discussion about the number of migrants that each member state should accept. However, whatever figure is determined, it will be irrelevant if we do not develop a permanent and mandatory mechanism for the relocation of refugees. We are all witnesses that the so-called The Dublin Regulation has failed and is practically no longer implemented,” said Iliana Yotova. She reminded that a number of member states have stopped registering migrants because they lack funds and resources. Today, the European Commission is expected to announce new measures and an increased number of migrants who will be relocated. According to preliminary information, the EC will propose that the emergency measures for Italy and Greece be applied to Hungary as well, due to the unprecedented influx of refugees to this country in recent weeks . “We have a great need for the so-called “hot spots” to work not only in Italy and Greece, but in all the member states outside the EU’s border,” she also said and emphasized that in these “hot spots” the national authorities will be assisted by European Refugee Agency (EASO) and Frontex. “Thus, it will be possible to distinguish more quickly and more surely who is just an economic migrant and who is really fleeing war”, explained Mrs. Yotova. In conclusion of her speech, she added that all these measures will not have significant results , if Europe does not actively intervene in the resolution of conflicts in the countries from which migrants and refugees come.
