Regional Forum on Robusta Coffee in New Guinea

He Regional Forum on Robusta Coffee Plantations It took place on October 25 in Nueva Guinea, organized by the Nicaraguan Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA). This event brought together producer families from various communities to discuss essential practices in coffee cultivation, including pruning, fertilization and pest control.

The importance of artisanal traps to manage the borer, a pest harmful to coffee, was highlighted. The region of New Guinea is essential for the production of robusta coffee in Nicaragua, with approximately 10,000 apples grown and a production of 250 to 400 quintals of coffee cherry per block.

REGIONAL FORUM ON ROBUSTA COFFEE PLANTATIONS IN NEW GUINEA

The Nicaraguan Institute of Agricultural Technology, INTA, held this Friday, October 25, the Regional Forum on Establishment and Management of Robusta Coffee Plantations, with the participation of Producer Families from the Communities of Los Pintos, Río Plata, San Antonio, El Verdún, Jerusalem, La Esperanza, Nuevo León and Yolaina, at the Héroes de la Columna Jacinto Hernández Center for the Development of Agricultural Technologies, located in the Municipality of Nueva Guinea, South Caribbean Coast.

During the event, the most important cultural tasks that must be carried out in this crop, such as pruning and fertilization, were addressed.

In addition to the timely control of pests with the preparation of artisanal traps and attractants based on fermented coffee husks, to control the borer; considered one of the most harmful pests of coffee.

Robusta coffee is grown on the Caribbean Coast and New Guinea, it is the region that produces the most in an area close to 10,000 apples in the hands of approximately 1,000 producers with yields between 250 to 400 quintals of coffee cherry per apple.
