NEK has not requested an increase in the price of electricity –

/ world today news/ “There is no reason for the price of electricity for end users to increase until the end of the year,” Deputy Chairman of the Energy Commission in the Parliament Yavor Kuyumdzhiev said on Darik Radio’s “Denyat”.

According to him, NEK does not want to increase the price of electricity by 2.5 times, but to increase its revenues. According to the deputy from the Coalition for Bulgaria, this does not necessarily reflect on the price for end users, as the State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation has the opportunity to compensate for this in several ways. “The National Electric Company did not request an increase in the price of electricity, but requested an increase in recognized revenue for the public provider. Understand the NEC’s normalized profit that goes into the price at which the NEC sells to the ERPs. At the moment, it is about BGN 105, and it includes BGN 1.30 per NEC profit or reimbursement of the costs of carrying out these activities, i.e. less than 1% of the price NEC sells is profit. What NEK requested and sent the relevant documents to the State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation is an increase of this 1% to 3%,” explained Kuyumdzhiev.

When asked how all this will affect the end user, he explained that it may not affect him in any way, clarifying:

“It may not affect at all, because this profit margin that NEC wants increased can be offset by reducing the price of some of the plants, reducing the price of the mix, reducing the costs of the EPPs. There are many ways so that in the end it does not affect the final price for consumers. Another thing that is important to know is that this is under the purview of the State Energy and Water Regulatory Commission, which is an independent regulator, and its decision will be final. I hope that my colleagues will assess the situation in the country, they will assess what we have been trying to do for almost a year, and they will not allow a price increase, but simply another redistribution will be made in the direction of a little more revenue for NEK” , Kuyumdzhiev further explained.

Kuyumdzhiev stated that Bulgaria is ready to meet the suspension of natural gas supplies due to the situation in Ukraine, but hopes that such a scenario will not occur. Panic stockpiling of natural gas will increase its price for European countries, but not for Bulgaria, believes the deputy, who recalled that our country has medium-term contracts.

When asked if Bulgaria should take steps to increase supplies so that we have a little more stock if it comes to what we fear, he explained that the increase in supplies for us is related to payments, which at the moment are not planned.
