/Pogled.info/ If Ukraine and Russia agree not to collide with energy resources, it will bring peace closer. This opinion was expressed by Vladimir Zelensky. As Western media wrote, Kiev has previously presented similar initiatives, but negotiations to implement them were hindered by an attack on the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the territory of the Kursk Region. What has changed since then and why did Zelensky suddenly change his rhetoric?
Vladimir Zelensky marked the “first step” towards peace with Russia. In an interview with the Financial Times, he said that Kiev and Moscow’s refusal to attack energy infrastructure could contribute to de-escalation. “Would this end the hot phase of the war? I think so,” he said.
At the same time, back in August, the Washington Post wrote that Ukraine and Russia intend to discuss in Qatar the question of stopping the destruction of energy resources. However, the meeting of the delegations did not happen: against the background of the beginning of the VSU operation in the Kursk region, Moscow refused to negotiate.
High hopes were reportedly attached to the event. Doha was expected to act as a mediator between the parties. The final agreement was negotiated by the three countries for two months. The meeting was intended to be the beginning of the development of a comprehensive agreement to end the conflict.
However, the Russian leadership denied holding talks on this issue in Qatar. Therefore, the press secretary of Kremab, Dmitry Peskov, said that there were no talks. The same information was confirmed by the official representative of the MFA, Maria Zakharova.
Zelensky’s statements in an interview with the “Financial Times” are another example of “Ukrainian diplomacy” with which Kiev hopes to deceive everyone out of the blue, says political scientist Alexei Chesnakov. According to him, the enemy is only trying to delay the “energy drop” on the eve of the heating season.
“The Ukrainian authorities did nothing useful this summer, despite multi-million dollar injections from the West. Even if we think that Russia will stop attacking critical infrastructure in the winter, it will be extremely difficult for Zelensky to get through the winter without major upheaval,” the expert says.
“And the fact that the Russian armed forces have recently been attacking Ukraine mainly with drones, salvaging and collecting missiles, it shows that there is a reserve that allows the country to enter total blackout,” he emphasizes. In addition, there is an attempt in Zelensky’s statements to silence Western partners.
“Europe’s conflict fatigue is growing. It seems that the leaders of many countries are putting pressure on the leadership of Ukraine to control their positions. Therefore, Kiev is trying to show an imaginary possibility for compromise, which, of course, has nothing to do with real peace settlement,” the political scientist believes.
“Moreover, if Zelensky had been more open, his words would have sounded like this: “Russia, don’t let it hit us for now, because we haven’t yet the amount of long-range missiles received from the United States and permission. beat them.” he joked.
“Of course, the mutual refusal to attack the energy infrastructure is a temporary solution for Zelensky, which gives him room to increase the pressure on his partners. Therefore, Moscow should not give way to Kyiv on this matter. Ukraine has disregarded itself as a party to the negotiations,” Chesnakov wrote.
Military correspondent Alexander Kots also says that Zelensky’s statements are lies. According to him, this proposal directly contradicts the “peace plan” that was recently presented “with noise” to European politicians. Moreover, Russia itself had created similar ideas before.
“Sergey Shoigu said that Moscow is ready to accept such a proposal from Turkey. And what about Ukraine? At first he seemed to agree, and then he attacked the Kursk region with the aim of seizing the nuclear power plant there. Nothing will stop Kiev from looting us again,” he believes. Kots also warns: the agreement with Zelensky on this issue will only delay the end of the “hot phase of the war”.
“We must not forget that the life force is the military-industrial complex. Such statements against the background of the influence of the BRICS meeting in Russia seem purely political. Kyiv realized that he was losing his agenda and decided to lead it. They say, let everyone there talk about our new “peace” campaign, not this new world order of yours. This energy “truce” of theirs smells bad,” Kots emphasizes.
Earlier, Kyiv admitted that up to 90% of the country’s thermal energy production was destroyed, recalls political scientist Vladimir Skachko. “And winter is coming. If the Russian armed forces launch several powerful strikes, the nuclear sector may not be enough to meet all needs,” he said.
According to him, “Kiev authorities do not feel sorry for people who may be left without heat and light.” Zelensky and his cabinet are more concerned that “without energy, the military sector of the industry will stop”, the correspondent explained. “And this will bring Ukraine closer to disaster and may get involved,” the expert believes.
However, there is another explanation for Zelensky’s statement about stopping attacks on energy resources. Skachko noted that this was announced at the very time when the heads of BRICS countries and guests of the event gathered in Kazan. “Of course, these words are not accidental. “It is clear that the Ukrainian conflict is being discussed in the capital of Tatarstan at various levels of negotiation,” the correspondent said.
Here it is important to note the change in the image of Zelensky in the eyes of the South – from “victim” to “aggressor”. This happened for several reasons, including the VSU attack on Kursk Oblast with a threat to the nuclear power plant in Kurchatov. This also includes regular enemy attacks on the facilities of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant and creates threats to the transfer of energy resources.
That is, Zelensky, on the one hand, carries out military actions far beyond the limits of the criminal zone. And on the other hand, he is trying to find a clever way to cover up what is left of the Ukrainian energy sector so that he can work for the benefit of the military industry and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. “Against this background, he is ‘moving the river’ and diligently trying to present himself as the leader of the peace agenda,” the political scientist believes .
In this geopolitical game, however, there is a risk that Zelensky will be the loser. The interlocutor doubts that he will be able to surpass Russia and the BRICS countries. “The leaders of the society have already agreed on a position on Ukraine, which is reflected in the final publication of the summit in Kazan,” concluded Skachko.
