Wout van Aert’s Road to Recovery: Latest Updates on His Comeback After Vuelta Crash

Wout van Aert is still working on his comeback after his crash in the Vuelta. He hopped on his bike for a while and then visited his physiotherapist.

After his big crash in the Vuelta on September 3, Wout van Aert had to end his road season. He suffered a deep injury to his knee when he fell and had to stay in hospital for a while.

In the meantime Van Aert been back on the bike for about three weeks. On Tuesday he trained for around 101 kilometers with Jan Bakelants and Daan Soete, and on Wednesday Van Aert went out for an 87 kilometer ride.

Van Aert likes the sunrise

On Thursday morning, Van Aert enjoyed the misty sunrise in Herentals, but stopped on a 22.66 kilometer ride. “We couldn’t resist,” Van Aert wrote on his Strava. But strength also had to be saved for the evening.

Van Aert visited his physiotherapist Thijs Hertsens from LAB Antwerp for strength exercises. Hertsens also managed Van Aert and Evenepoel while they were rehabilitating after falling in the spring.

For his visit to the physiotherapist, Van Aert chose a jersey from the Red Devils a few years ago. A pair of pants from the Olympic Games in Paris, where he won bronze in the time trial, were also taken out of the closet.
