added support for AMD FidelityFX FSR 3.1 upscaling

With the arrival of support for the AMD FSR 3.1 upscaler, developers now have the opportunity to improve visual quality and video game performance thanks to Microsoft’s DirectSR technology.

AMD FSR 3.1: a significant step forward for game developers

Microsoft has taken a new step in the field of upscaling with support for AMD FSR 3.1. This update is part of the ongoing improvement of the Universal SR API for developers, which has been refined over the past few months and is now more powerful than ever with the addition of DirectSR Preview.

Although DirectSR technology is still in the early stages, it supports upscaling techniques from AMD, Intel and NVIDIA. Each manufacturer offers its own upscaling method; for example, DLSS for NVIDIA, XeSS for Intel and FSR for AMD. Microsoft therefore developed the DirectSR API, launched last May, to centralize these different solutions.

With the integration of AMD FidelityFX FSR 3.1 into DirectSR, developers can take advantage of numerous utilities to elevate the gaming experience. This new upscaler from AMD improves game performance while preserving visual quality, thus competing directly with other solutions on the market.

The new version is distinguished by its stability and its progress compared to FSR 2.2. Among the notable new features, we find better temporal stability, which reduces the flashing and flickering effects, improved ghosting reduction as well as better preservation of details.

Microsoft DirectSR

Access to Microsoft DirectSR Preview is simplified with the latest Agility SDK 1.715.1-preview, without requiring the installation of AMD Adrenalin software. FSR 3.1 integrates easily into DirectSR and is compatible with most graphics cards. However, it is necessary for Intel or NVIDIA users to download the latest graphics driver updates to benefit from full functionality.

DirectSR was designed in collaboration with AMD, allowing it to work without the need to install specific drivers. Initially, only FSR version 2.2 was supported. However, Microsoft wanted to extend this compatibility to solutions from Intel and NVIDIA, thus making it possible to switch from one upscaler to another depending on the GPU used.
