Massive installation of onyx and signage at Paris movie theater ‘Pate Palace’

Samsung Electronics Cinema LED screen ‘Onyx’ installed at ‘Pate Palace’, a newly opened movie theater in Paris, France.

Samsung Electronics was recognized for its excellent display technology and supplied cinema LED (light-emitting diode) and signage to Pathé Cinema, a leading European theater chain.

Samsung Electronics announced on the 24th that it has installed a large number of cinema LED screens ‘Onyx’ and signage products at the newly opened movie theater ‘Pate Palace’ in Paris, France.

Samsung Electronics installed four 10m wide 4K resolution Onyx screens and two 5m wide 2K resolution Onyx screens in six of Pathé Palace‘s seven theaters.

The Cinema LED Screen Onyx, introduced by Samsung Electronics for the first time in the world, displays images directly on the screen, unlike beam projectors that use projection methods, so it displays the screen uniformly and has excellent color reproduction. As a result, there is no screen distortion that is essential in the projector method.

Onyx supports HDR (High Dynamic Range) image quality and implements a black color with an overwhelming contrast ratio with a self-luminous LED display. In addition, it supports high brightness of up to 300 nits, which is about 6 times brighter than the projector type, providing realistic images. It also supports a three-dimensional 3D viewing experience.

Accordingly, it became the world’s first movie screen other than a projector to obtain certification to the digital cinema standard established by the Digital Cinema Institute (DCI) for picture quality, sound quality, and content security functions.

‘The Wall’, an 8K ultra-high resolution LED display measuring 9.6m wide and 5.4m tall, was installed in the Pathé Palace lobby. The Wall’s micro AI (artificial intelligence) processor immediately analyzes content and upscales low-quality video up to 8K to provide clear picture quality.

Samsung smart signage was installed in auxiliary facilities such as unmanned beverage and popcorn vending machines. It displays information such as movie schedules, movie trailers, and menus more clearly.

Meno van den Berg, Vice President of Samsung Electronics France, said, “We are pleased to be able to provide the audience with a top-class movie viewing experience through Onyx at Pathé Palace, a premium theater where you can experience not only movies but also the atmosphere of history and art.” “We will lead the market with LED signage with unrivaled technology in line with rapidly changing content production and consumption methods such as LED theater and virtual production,” he said.

Meanwhile, in addition to the Pathé Group, which is pursuing a premium theater creation strategy, Samsung Electronics is leading the digitalization of spaces representing major brands that pursue premium by installing various signage products in exhibition and office spaces through continuous collaboration with Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Rimowa. I’m doing it.
