After his college years spent at Louisiana Tech University, Johnson began his career in the G-League with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers shirt where he stood out enough to attract the attention of the NBA franchises. At the beginning of the 2015-2016 season, in fact, he signed for the Washington Wizards (with whom he would never take the field) before returning to the Vipers, a team with which he remained until 2017; here he is trained by coach Matt Brase, becoming the protagonist of two excellent years which ended at very high percentages. He began 2017-2018 in Israel (Ironi Nes Ziona) before moving to France where he remained until the end of the 2020-2021 season wearing the vests of, in order, Paris-Levallois, Élan Chalon and JDA Dijon.

In 2021-2022 he moved to Russia where he initially played for Saratov (14.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3 assists in VTB League) but then, in March 2022, he joined UNICS Kazan, the team with which he ended the season. In 2022-2023 he arrived in Varese, at Openjobmetis, and was the protagonist of a great season which ended with 15.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists on average per season which led him, the following year, to play in the Turkish championship with the shirt of Çağdaş Bodrum Spor Kulübü.
