Mexico City. The Mexican Air Force intercepted a Cessna-type aircraft that entered Mexican airspace over Oaxaca that was transporting more than half a ton of cocaine, the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) reported this Sunday.
The detection of the aircraft occurred last Saturday, as part of the permanent airspace surveillance operations carried out by the National Center for Airspace Surveillance and Protection (Cenavi) and the exchange of intelligence through the Regional Interoperability Conference between Latin American and Caribbean countries.
“An aircraft heading to Mexican territory was reported, so three fixed-wing aircraft and a helicopter from the Mexican Air Force took off to intercept it, as did a helicopter from the Force on Alert Situation (Fu.SA) transporting a reaction force of the Mexican Army” explained the Headquarters in a statement.
The Cessna 210 type aircraft was located on the ground 16 kilometers southwest of San Francisco Ixhuatán, Oaxaca. According to Sedena, 13 packages were located inside, weighing approximately 40 kilograms each, containing a white powder with characteristics typical of cocaine.
The insured shipment was made available to the competent authorities for investigations and expert actions to be carried out to confirm the type and quantity of drugs.
Sedena highlighted that the operation took place as part of the 100-day Security Plan. It was not detailed if any people were detained.
